Thousands of IS Militants Still in Iraq, Syria: US envoy
US special envoy for Syria James Jeffrey said on Thursday that he believes thousands of Islamic State (IS) jihadists are still active in Iraq and Syria
Jeffrey made the comments while talking to reporters on Thursday where he said that about 15,000 insurgents are in the two neighboring Arab countries.
The Islamic State was declared defeated about two years ago, but the extremist group’s sleeper cells still impose a serious threat the security forces and civilians in Iraq.
It attacked a security checkpoint in the Kurdistan Region’s Garmiyan area on Wednesday night, leaving four people killed and eight more injured. Source
