Iraqi News Agency More Than 14 Billion Dinars Recovered: Customs Authority

The General Customs Authority announced today, Tuesday, the recovery of more than 14 billion dinars.                   

In a statement obtained by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the authority explained that “a new qualitative achievement has been made within the framework of government efforts to protect public funds and enhance financial integrity. The Customs Exemptions Follow-up Team succeeded in recovering a financial amount of (14,104,025,000) dinars after a thorough review of exemptions granted to several investment and industrial companies and projects.”

The Director General of the General Customs Authority, Thamer Qasim Dawood, confirmed that “this achievement was realized with direct support and guidance from the Prime Minister, as part of a comprehensive reform plan aimed at regulating customs exemptions and ensuring that they are directed to actual projects with economic feasibility.”

He explained that the team closely monitored 24 projects, including 16 investment projects and 8 industrial development projects, distributed across the governorates of Baghdad, Nineveh, Najaf Al-Ashraf, Anbar, Al-Muthanna, Karbala, and Maysan.

Dawood added: “There will be no leniency with violating entities, and all violations discovered have been officially referred to the Iraqi judiciary to take strict legal action against them, in order to protect public funds and prevent any unlawful exploitation of customs exemptions.”

He stressed that “the authority, with continuous support from the Prime Minister, is proceeding to enhance transparency, raise the level of oversight, and apply stricter measures against any attempt to circumvent laws and regulations, in a way that ensures support for the national economy and the achievement of sustainable development.”
