Iraqi, Iranian FMs Discuss Regional Developments by Phone
ERBIL — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein on Friday held a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Hussein Amir Abdullahian to discuss the latest developments in the region.
The Iraqi minister noted that the security situation in the Gulf and Yemen can have effects on the stability of Iraq, his office said in a press release.
“Therefore, we are ready to make all efforts and work with the regional countries to stop the violence,” Hussein said.
They also stressed the need to continue talks in Baghdad and discussed the tripartite cooperation between Iraq, Iran, and Saudi Arabia to launch the fifth round.
Saeed Khatibzadeh, a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, said last month that a new round of talks between Tehran and Riyadh would be held, adding: “The next round of negotiations between Iran and Saudi Arabia is on the agenda. Iraq will host these meetings.”
Representatives from the two countries have held direct talks in Baghdad since last April with the help of Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi.
