US Envoy Dismisses Reports of Back-Channel Talks with Iran
The US special representative for Iran, Brian Hook, has dismissed previous reports which claimed there were back-channel talks between the US officials and Iranian representatives in Erbil, the capital city of Kurdistan Region.
Previously on Tuesday, i24News reported that the Iranian delegation, led by Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, conducted secret talks with US officials at a hotel in Erbil.
Asked about the issue by al-Arabiya, Hook said Iran has rejected diplomacy “too many times”.
“Right now, there are no back-channel talks between the US and Iran,” the report quoted Hook.
He also reiterated that the Iranian regime must change its behavior. “We, for the first time, are saying no to the Iranian regime. There is no acceptable level of lethal assistance to its proxies. There is no acceptable level of threatening your neighbor’s day in and day out. They’ve got to change their behavior”. Source
