US Ready to Negotiate with Iran: Pompeo
The US has shown readiness to negotiate with its historic rival Iran if Tehran behaves like a “normal nation,” Secretary of State Mike Pompeo revealed on Saturday.
He, however, noted that Iran has not indicated any willingness to change its “malign behavior,” according to a report by Fox News.
“In the end, the Iranians, the regime, has to make a decision that it wants to behave like a normal nation,” Pompeo told reporters during a press conference with Ecuadorian president Lenín Moreno, as quoted by Fox News. “And if they do that, we’re prepared to negotiate across a broad spectrum of issues with no preconditions and I hope that they will do that.”
He noted that Washington has tried to defuse the tensions between the two sides and create the space for negotiations, while pointing out that “we have seen no indications that the Iranians are prepared to fundamentally change the direction of their nation, to do the things we’ve asked them to do with their nuclear program, their missile program, their malign behavior around the world.” Source
