Foreign Forces Provoke Tensions in the Gulf: Iran’s Rouhani
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Sunday that the presence of foreign forces in the Gulf region would be the main source of tensions.
“The presence of foreign forces will not only not help the security of the region, but will be the main factor for tension,” Rouhani said while meeting with Oman’s foreign minister in Tehran.
The remarks came after UK, France, Italy and Denmark almost agreed on the deployment of a naval mission to ensure security for their shipping lines in the Strait of Hormuz.
Rouhani noted that Iran and Oman had primary responsibility for the security in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, and others were note welcome, as reported by Reuters.
“The roots of the unpleasant events and tension in the region today are the unilateral withdrawal of America (from the 2015 nuclear deal),” the Iranian president added. Source
