Turkey and Iraq to Establish Joint Water Resources Center

Turkish and Iraqi authorities met in Bagdad to discuss issues pertaining to water resources, after which they agreed to establish a joint Water Resources Center in the Iraqi capital.

Turkish presidential representative to Iraq, Veysel Eroglu, told reporters that both countries have drafted an action plan to address the water issues, Anadolu Agency reported.

“We have prepared a great working and action plan, regarding the water issue,” Eroglu explained. “We want friendship between Iraq and Turkey, to grow even stronger. We will establish a center in Baghdad to study and locate water sources.”

The official noted that Ankara seeks to further expand cooperation with Baghdad beyond water issues. According to Eroglu, his country is also working on a plan to establish a railway from northern Iraq to the southern port of Basra, which is connecting Turkey with the Gulf. Source
